REC came into being in 1969 to articulate a response to the pressing exigencies of the nation. During the time of severe drought, the leaders sought to reduce the dependency of agriculture on monsoons by energizing agricultural pump-sets for optimized irrigation. Thereafter, we have ventured into newer paths and expanded our horizons to emerge today, as a leader in providing financial assistance to the power sector in all segments, be it Generation, Transmission or Distribution.

The National Training Program (NTP) is a mega capacity building and HRD initiative under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyothi Yojana (DDUGJY) project which aims at providing need based skill development training to as many as 15,000 C&D category employees of DISCOMs across the country during the financial year 2021-22. Having appointed as Nodal Agency for its implementation, REC Institute of Power Management & Training (RECIPMT) ( Formerly known as Central Institute for Rural Electrification (CIRE)) of REC has been steering its implementation. Since, 2009 to March 2021, C&D employees numbering 2,74,976 were trained across the DISCOMs thus, making available a strong pool of trained manpower.
